Our Values.

We are about the things that matter.

We’re interested in where-did-that-come-from, how-was-it-made and who-was-behind-it. We’re about great design – things that are beautiful, honest, that work, that bring joy and inspire us to make a difference.

But we’re not about the fast and disposable — quick trends and high turnover. We’re not about unsustainable production, and materials that hang around for the next thousand years. And we’re not about supporting the unethical treatment of workers.

So we’ve created Okay— a thoughtfully curated collection of well-made, and beautifully designed goods that have been produced ethically and sustainably.

Mindful partnerships
We choose to partner with brands and collaborators that share our values and are working towards a common goal. Learn more about them here.

Across other areas of Okay operations we also aim to make considered, positive and ethical choices and are always on the lookout for new ways of working. Wherever possible we package our goods using r3pack’s compostable courier bags. We’re proud to run the store on Spiffy Stores — a 100% Australian owned ecommerce platform, and deliver our packages using Sendle — a registered B Corp and Australia’s first carbon neutral delivery service.

Okay is also proud to work out of Studio Shed — a sweet little space where creatives connect, collaborate and make things happen under the one roof.

Support for things that matter

Okay is proud to work with Yuwa donating 5% of each purchase in support of their award-winning program. Yuwa uses team sports and education to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and child marriage among girls in Jharkhand, India

Rural Jharkhand sees five out of 10 girls drop out of school and become child brides. The state also has the lowest ratio of teachers for each government school in the country as well as ranking lowest in female literacy. The state is among the worst in human trafficking, domestic abuse, sanitation and throws up several challenges to the empowerment of women.

In 2009, Boston University graduate Franz Gastler founded Yuwa with the financial help of his high school friends, and since then, the program has continued grow and expand its impact on the local community. Today, Yuwa is one of the largest girls’

football programs in India, with 40 girls coaching 450 girls five days a week. Every girl in Yuwa learns critical life-skills, and 95 girls are now earning a world-class education in Yuwa School. Recently, the program was awarded the 2019 Sport for Good award at the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards.

Yuwa is a cause that we at Okay feel passionate about. Okay founder, Sheree, grew up playing everything from netball and cricket to soccer and even dragonboating. And, having spent much of her career working in sports at Olympic and Organising Committees in Australia and Canada, she’s experienced first hand the power of sports — the fostering of friendships, and the impact it can have on a community. Now with two young daughters involved in the local soccer competition, she’s been able to see the positive benefits team sports is having on them.

Sheree also has strong family connections to India, through her grandfather. He was born in India in the 1900s not long after his family had relocated there from the UK to help build a railway system. He lived in the northern Indian district of Mussoorie until aged 18 when he migrated to New Zealand, with this time in India having a lasting impact on his life.

Who is Okay?

This is a little bit about me

I trained as a graphic designer in my home town of Auckland, NZ and, while I didn’t pursue this as a career, I came away with a true understanding of the value of the design process and craftsmanship. I went on to work in brand management, sports marketing, administration and retail for the likes of Getty Images, Olympic and Organising Committees (Canada and Australia), Intimo Lingerie (NZ) and within Homewares/Furniture retail and commercial industry.

More recently, I’ve felt compelled to move away from the corporate world and really showcase my true passions — and to make a difference with what I do.
I’ve made the conscious decision to be honest, trust my instincts, to have balance and live simply — its not about having more, but quality and having freedom to travel and experience life with others.

After living in many cities across the globe, I’ve made coastal Australia home with my husband and children — I will always travel, design and be in the outdoors – this is what has shaped my life and to me these are the things of true freedom and wealth.

I’m always interested in the story, the makers, how a product is created, made with what and where from, and to work with those who need it most. This has been the driving force behind creating Okay, the curation of products and supporting the work of Yuwa.

To me, these are the things that matter. I aim to make considered choices when I purchase anything — I want to be responsible and I want it to be ‘Okay’ and I hope you do too. Together we can make a difference supporting the things that matter for our families, our communities and others around the world. xx Sheree
